Matt on the "Trail of Silence"Hello Everyone!
Matt and I had 54 hours off so we jetted over to Utah to see the Dinosaur National Monument. We broke out our camping gear for the first time this summer and had a very nice weekend. The Monument is part of a rather large canyon land area. The scenery was just beautiful and we enjoyed the 3 hour drive. We went for a 4.5 mile hike on the "Trail of Silence" first thing Tuesday morning which was good as it gets very hot in Utah! The actual Quarry where the excavated wall where all the bones are is actually closed but we got to see some bones along a trail nearby. The park staff were all very friendly and knowledgeable. We listened to a short lecture by an young, energetic geology major named Matthew. On our way back to work, we stopped in town to get our oil changed and the mandatory stop at Walmart. Oh the excitement of going to "town!" On our next stretch of time off, we are hoping to load up the tent again and go north a little bit more and hit the Flaming Gorge National Park. There really is a lot to see within 3 or so hours of here. We still have the Rockies and Yellowstone.....We'll have plenty of time this winter I think. :-p
